Mr L.V. Gosai founder/owner of Sharmilee brought his wealth of knowledge from the Dar-Es-Salam Hotel, in Tanzania, East Africa. They ran the Dar-Es-Salam Hotel 30 years before relocating to the UK.
He spotted a short fall in the Indian sweet (Mithai) market in Leicester. In 1973, with his three sons he opened the The Sharmilee on Belgrave Road. With authentic hand made Indian sweets and savories all freshly made on site. The rest as they say is history.
In 1988 the Gosai brothers expanded the shop to over double the original size, at the same time creating the Sharmilee Vegetarian Restaurant on the first floor. Serving only pure vegetarian dishes. Our menu has evolved over the years and today brings together many dishes from across the Indian continent, from north to south and also some Chinese based dishes with an Indian twist (Indo Chinese).
One thing we pride ourselves on is that all dishes are made fresh to order from start to finish as you would at home, not pre-cooked.

OUTSIDE CATERING
We have an experienced team of chefs to create bespoke menus for any outside catering and of any number of people. From large wedding orders to small home parties we can personalise the menu accordingly. Give us a call to talk it over and come in to sample our dishes before deciding.

From all Indian restaurants in the country rated 10th and from all vegetarian rated 2nd.
"A two part venue: a sweet mart and an upmarket restaurant decorated with marble pillars and high-backed black chairs. Tasty starters of Pani Puri (crispy puris served with spicy sauce, chickpeas and onion), chanabateta (chickpeas and potatoes in a tamarind sauce) are followed by South-Indian specialties like Masala Dosa or Idli Sambhar (flat pulse balls with coconut chutney)."
